I Started Sewing at Nine Years Old

May 31, 20262 min read

Before FYETKA Couture, before custom pieces, and long before I ever imagined building a fashion brand, there was a nine year old girl who wanted to create.

I started sewing when I was nine years old.

There was no fashion school, no formal training, and no one sitting beside me showing me exactly what to do.

I simply wanted to make things.

I would have an idea in my head and wanted to figure out how to turn it into something real. So I started experimenting with fabric, thread, and whatever I could get my hands on.

Some things worked.

A lot of things didn't.

But I kept creating.

Learning by Doing

Being self taught meant learning through trial and error.

If something didn't fit correctly, I had to figure out why.

If the fabric didn't fall the way I imagined, I tried something different.

If an idea didn't work the first time, I kept going until I understood what needed to change.

Looking back, I think that process shaped the way I design today.

I learned to trust my instincts.

I learned to pay attention to the fabric in my hands.

And I learned that sometimes the original idea changes once you actually begin creating it.

That isn't failure.

That's part of designing.

From an Idea to Something You Can Wear

One of my favorite parts of creating is watching something that existed only in my imagination slowly become real.

It might begin with a sketch, a color, a piece of fabric, or simply a feeling.

Then comes the cutting.

The pinning.

The sewing.

The fitting.

The adjusting.

And eventually, there is this moment when I can step back and see the finished piece.

Even after all these years, that feeling hasn't gotten old.

What Hasn't Changed

Today, FYETKA Couture looks very different from what that nine year old girl was creating.

But the reason I create hasn't changed very much at all.

I still love taking an idea and figuring out how to bring it to life with my own hands.

I still believe the smallest details matter.

And I still want the woman wearing something I've created to feel something when she puts it on.

Beautiful.

Confident.

Seen.

Like the piece belongs to her.

I couldn't have known at nine years old where that curiosity would eventually lead me.

I just knew I wanted to create.

And in many ways, I'm still that girl today.

Only now, the things I once imagined are becoming FYETKA Couture.
